WoW Forever: Final Beta Changes Ahead of Launch
Blizzard's final beta update brings major class balance changes, tank threat adjustments, and faster respawns ahead of the launch.

With World of Warcraft: Forever launching on November 4 in North America and November 5 in Europe and Asia, Blizzard has published its final major beta update, covering changes developed since October 15.
The update introduces broader gameplay changes beyond the extensive class and talent adjustments covered in our earlier Talent Tree Hotfix analysis. The latest changes affect class balance, tank threat, leveling, and launch preparations.
Class Balance Takes a New Direction
Blizzard has revised its approach to class balance following feedback from beta testing.
Initially, the developers attempted to keep classes within roughly the same power levels as original Classic WoW. However, this approach meant that introducing new abilities often required weakening existing ones.
Instead, Blizzard has increased damage across multiple classes while raising the health of higher-level enemies to compensate.
The goal is to preserve the distinctive strengths of each class rather than making their capabilities increasingly similar. Blizzard wants every class to contribute something valuable to a group, even when their strengths differ considerably.
These adjustments also establish the starting point for future balance changes.
Blizzard does not expect to make major tuning changes before raids open in December, except to address bugs or significant balance problems. A larger tuning pass is planned once sufficient data becomes available from players progressing beyond level 30.
Tank Threat Rebalanced Without Salvation
One of the most significant gameplay changes is the removal of Blessing of Salvation and its related abilities.
Rather than relying on a Paladin blessing to reduce the threat generated by other players, Blizzard has increased the threat multipliers available to tanks.
The changes include:
Warrior: Defensive Stance now increases threat by 80%, up from 30%.
Druid: Bear Form and Dire Bear Form now increase threat by 115%, up from 50%.
Paladin: Righteous Fury now increases all threat generated by 33%, with an additional 90% threat from Holy damage.
Paladins can also learn Righteous Fury at level 10 instead of level 16, bringing access to their tanking ability in line with other tank classes.
These changes shift threat management toward the tanks themselves rather than requiring a specific Paladin buff to support group damage output.
Faster Respawns for Launch
Blizzard has adjusted creature respawn rates across the game to accommodate the large number of players expected at launch.
Starting zones will receive the fastest respawn rates, helping reduce competition for enemies during the opening hours.
Respawn acceleration gradually decreases in higher-level zones, where players are expected to be more spread out.
Blizzard intends to return respawn rates toward their normal values as the initial launch population spreads across the world.
Quest Progression Adjustments
The update also includes adjustments to quest experience rewards, minimum level requirements, and prerequisites.
These changes affect how players progress through the world and when certain quests become available.
Players following established Classic leveling routes should keep in mind that Forever's quest progression may differ from the original game, particularly where level requirements or quest chains have been modified.
Full Gamepad Support Is Ready
Gamepad support has reached a fully functional state ahead of launch.
Players can now use a controller for all major gameplay activities, including movement, combat, spellcasting, interactions, and interface navigation.
The update also improves inventory management, targeting, flight paths, and compatibility with user-created addons.
Controller settings can be customized through Edit Mode and the Options menu, allowing players to adjust their controls without relying entirely on keyboard and mouse input.
