How to Start Smart in WoW Forever: Set Up Your Alt First
Before leveling your main, set up an alt for auctions, Tailoring, and Enchanting. Save travel time, progress four professions, and make smarter decisions about your loot.

Before you start leveling your main character in World of Warcraft: Forever, take a few minutes to prepare an alt. This simple decision can save you considerable travel time, help you manage your loot more efficiently, and allow you to progress four professions across two characters.
The idea is straightforward: Your main focuses on leveling, while your alt handles the Auction House, Tailoring, and Enchanting.
Instead of repeatedly traveling back to a capital city, your main can log out at its current inn while your alt takes care of business.
Create Your Alt Before You Start
Create a second character and position it in a capital city with convenient access to a mailbox, bank, and Auction House.
This doesn't have to be a disposable character created solely for storage. You can use a class you already intend to play later. For now, that character takes care of your inventory, auctions, and two professions.
The important part is preparing your alt before you begin leveling your main.
Once everything is set up, your main no longer needs to return to a capital city just to check auction prices, sell valuable items, or manage stored materials.
Instead, you can finish your session at the nearest inn, log out, and switch to your alt.
Level Four Professions Across Two Characters
One of the biggest advantages of this setup is the ability to progress four primary professions without constantly switching your main character's activities.
Give your alt Tailoring and Enchanting. Your main can then choose two other professions, such as gathering professions that complement your leveling route.
Whenever your main collects cloth or equipment that can be disenchanted, send those items to your alt.
Your alt can use the cloth to level Tailoring, craft equipment, and disenchant suitable items through Enchanting.
Why Tailoring and Enchanting Work Together
Tailoring creates equipment using cloth and other materials. Some of the crafted items, including eligible green and blue equipment, can be disenchanted.
This creates a useful relationship between the two professions:
Your main collects cloth and disenchantable equipment while leveling.
You mail those items to your alt.
Your alt uses the cloth to level Tailoring.
Suitable crafted equipment and items received from your main are disenchanted.
The resulting enchanting materials can be used to progress Enchanting or sold through the Auction House.
Instead of relying entirely on equipment drops to supply Enchanting, your alt can produce additional disenchantable items through Tailoring.
Meanwhile, your main continues progressing its own two professions.
Keep in mind that higher profession ranks may require additional character levels or training. Your alt may eventually need some leveling of its own to continue advancing.
Scan the Auction House Before You Start Playing
Your alt isn't just there to store items. It also gives you access to information that can influence your decisions throughout your leveling session.
Install Auctionator and make an Auction House scan part of your routine.
Ideally, start each session by logging into your alt and updating Auctionator's price data.
With current listing information available, you can make more informed decisions about the items you collect.
For example, an uncommon item might have a relatively low vendor value but a considerably higher asking price on the Auction House.
Without price information, you might sell it to a vendor without realizing its potential value.
With Auctionator's data, you can compare the available options:
Vendor the item if its Auction House value doesn't justify listing it.
Sell it through the Auction House if there is a worthwhile potential profit.
Keep or disenchant it if its materials are more useful for your professions.
Auction House listings don't guarantee successful sales, particularly during the early stages of a new server economy. Nevertheless, having price information is better than making decisions without it.
The goal isn't to predict the market perfectly. It's to avoid throwing away potentially valuable items simply because you didn't know what they were worth.
Let Your Main Stay Where It Is
With your alt managing auctions and crafting, your main can spend more time doing what matters most during leveling: completing quests, fighting enemies, and progressing through zones.
You don't need to travel back to a capital city every time your bags contain valuable items.
When you encounter a mailbox, send cloth, disenchantable equipment, and other items intended for auction to your alt.
When you're ready to finish playing, log out at your current inn rather than traveling across the world to manage your inventory.
Then switch to your alt to collect mail, process materials, craft items, disenchant equipment, and manage auctions.
This separates two different activities:
Your main handles leveling and gathering. Your alt handles crafting, storage, and selling.
The less time your main spends traveling for administrative tasks, the more time it can spend progressing.
What If You Want Tailoring and Enchanting on Your Main?
There is one important exception to this strategy.
If you intend to play Tailoring and Enchanting on your main character, assigning those professions to your alt doesn't make sense.
In that case, create a dedicated bank alt instead.
Your bank alt can still handle the Auction House, store valuable items, and provide updated price information through Auctionator.
Your main keeps Tailoring and Enchanting, while the bank alt handles the commercial side of your inventory management.
You won't gain the same four-profession setup, but you'll retain the time-saving advantages of keeping Auction House activities separate from leveling.
Prepare First, Level More Efficiently
Setting up an alt before leveling takes a little preparation, but the benefits extend throughout your character's progression.
Your main avoids unnecessary travel, your alt can develop Tailoring and Enchanting alongside your main's professions, and regular Auction House scans help you recognize valuable loot before selling it.
